Essay about Narrative and Genre in I Robot - 1119 Words

Narrative and Genre in I Robot The film ‘I Robot’ is a classic conventional sci-fi film. From the outset the audience establishes that this is of the science fiction genre due to the synthetic bubbles, vibrant colours, short snippets of wires and menacing orchestral music. The film shapes the particular expectations of the sci-fi genre by summoning up curiosity and suspense. The first character the audience sees is Will Smith. From this the audience can establish that he is the lead and central character. In addition, from his previous work, Will Smith is associated with sci-fi and action genres, such as Independence Day, Men in Black I and II and Bad Boys. This is the purpose of the shower scene as firstly it shows that he is not using any technology to turn it on and off. Secondly, the nudity shows the beauty of the human frame and how advanced it is, much like the robots. This comparison with the human frame and robots is clear in other sci-fi action films such as The Terminator. The intertextuality with the advert for the NS5 Robots demonstrates the disruption the Robots cause, due to it juxtaposing the scene, and the mass impact that Robots have on the lives of the people who live in Chicago, as they are unable to avoid them. The apple pie represents family ideals and traditions. It is homemade and not synthetic, again showing Spooner’s non-conformist side. Spooner’s disrespect of the robots presents the audience with a common enemy for our hero. This is supported by the music abruptly stopping as Spooner leaves the house. Also later, a robot gets him into trouble with his chief after he believed the robot had been stealing. Spooner carries a gun, which is an iconic symbol in the action genre as it represents power and authority for our hero. At the point that the Robot is seen running with the bag, Spooner tells the man to hold the pie he is eating or wear it. How do your feelings change towards Malvolio during the course of the play Essay Example For Students

How do your feelings change towards Malvolio during the course of the play Essay Malvolio was a very important member in Olivias household. Being the steward he was responsible for a lot of things in the house. He was a conscientious and efficient steward who Olivia cared much about. I would not have him miscarry for the half of my dowry ( Act 3, Scene 4, Line 62-62 ) Malvolios service and his judgement were valued by Olivia. if it be a suit from the Count, Im sick, or not at home what you will do dismiss it ( Act 1, Scene 5, Line 98 ) We first met Malvolio in Act 1, Scene 5 when Feste was trying to prove to Olivia that she was the fool for mourning for her brother when she knew that his soul was in heaven. Olivia asked for Malvolios opinion on Feste. Malvolio was critical, bitter and sarcastic in his response. He replied as if he was looking forward to Festes death. Yes, and shall do till the pangs of death shake him ( Act 1, Scene 5, Line 67 ) He referred Feste as a barren rascal and totally put him down. He didnt actually speak directly to Feste, he talked bad of Feste right in front of him, as if he didnt existed. Malvolios comments on him were scornful. He said Feste needed an audience or hed have nothing to say. This in fact is very true, actors need audience to complete their performance or their act would be totally pointless, and vice versa, audience needs actors also! Olivia described Malvolio as sick of self love . This is very true. Malvolio was interested in himself only. He was so concerned about himself that he couldnt be open with dealings of other people. He looked down on people because he thought he was higher than everybody else, except for Olivia. Malvolio had absolutely no sense of humour and often took himself and others too seriously. Malvolio was sent to tell the young gentleman at the gate ( Cesario ) that Olivia would not want to speak to him, he came back and reported to Olivia. Malvolio explained every detail to Olivia, saying that Cesario would not go until he had spoken to Olivia. Malvolio was very slow in thinking and was over elaborating the point In the end Olivia accepted to see Cesario, and called Maria. Gentlewoman, my lady calls said Malvolio. Malvolio needed to dignify his role so he spoke to make himself sound important. He thought himself as more superior than other servants in the household. He didnt like Marias close relationship with Olivia. He thought he didnt fit in the rest of the group, because he was higher and bigger than the others. Having been told by Olivia to chase Cesario, Malvolio ran after Cesario, against his dignity to return the ring. Malvolio was taking it out on him and said nasty things. She returns this ring to you, sir; you might have saved me my pains to have taken it away yourself ( Act 2, Scene 2, Line 5 ) He treated Cesario as the messenger, he had no idea how high Cesario was to Orsino. He did deliver nearly exactly what Olivia said. Malvolio was deliberately rude to Cesario. Malvolio was very surprised that Olivia would accept to see Cesario in the first place. Because Cesario denied that he threw a ring at Olivia, Malvolio was annoyed and threw it on the ground. If it be worth stooping for, there it lies in your eye; if not, be it his that finds it. ( Act 2, Scene 2, Line 13 ) Malvolio was a real puritan, and that was one of the main reasons why he never got along with Maria, and Sir Andrew Aguecheek, and especially Sir Toby! Malvolio completely disagrees with Sir Tobys lifestyle. In Act 2, Scene 3, Sir Andrew Aguecheek, Feste and Sir Toby were up very late and were totally drunk and they were singing which woke up Maria. They were having a great time until Malvolio stormed in. His attitude was very offensive. William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet, was full of de EssayMalvolio was more sure than ever that Olivia loved him, he was full of himself. He was going to carry out the other instructions on the forged letter, he was to be opposite with a kinsman, surly with servants and let his tongue tang with arguments of state and put himself into the trick of singularity. He was thanking Jove all the time but he was only godly when he thought he could get something good of it. He wasnt really in a belief or religion. Malvolios behaviour to Maria, Sir Toby and Fabian was exactly what was suggested in the letter. Maria, Sir Toby and Fabian were determined that Malvolio should be locked away. In those days, when someone was believed to have gone mad, they were beaten, bound and / or driven out. Malvolio was treated, as if he really was absolutely mad. We met Malvolio again in Act 4, Scene 2, this was the point our feelings towards Malvolio start to change. Malvolio was locked up in a dark room to cure his midsummer madness . Feste was persuaded by Maria to dress up as a priest, Sir Topas. He went to the dark room where Malvolio was locked and the priest was to interview him. Malvolio was relieved to hear a priests voice whom he thought would release him but Feste, instead of helping him, was confusing Malvolio even more, telling him that he wasnt in a dark room but in a room full of light. Sir Topas said to Malvolio that he was to remain in the dark room. Feste promised to bring Malvolio ink, pen, and paper in which Malvolio requested so that he could write to his lady and explain everything. Poor Malvolio was completely hopeless. I am not mad, Sir Topas ( Act 4, Scene 2 Line 38 ) Afterall, Malvolio hadnt done much wrong except to have offended Maria and Sir Toby. He was innocent for the madness that people accused him of. On the video we saw, in this scene, Malvolio was crying which was very rare, and the fact that Sir Topas came on and confused him and abused him even more made the audience gain sympathy back on Malvolio. The last time we met Malvolio was when the letter that Malvolio had written got into Olivias hands, a letter from the madly used Malvolio . By the Lord, madam, you wrong me, and the world shall know it. Though you have put me into darkness and given your drunken cousin rule over me, yet have I the benefit of my senses as well as your ladyship. ( Act 5, Scene 1 , Line 290-293 ) Malvolio returns, clutching the love letter sent by Olivia , as an evidence that she has misused him. The things Malvolio said between line 317 to line 331 was very touching, he was saying all the things that he had suffered. Tell me why ( line 331 ) Malvolio asked Olivia, he really couldnt believe why this had happened to him. Malvolio found out the truth that the letter was written by Maria, and everything was a set up. Then Feste came up, and explained everything. Feste kept quoting from the forged letter, and revealed that he was Sir Topas. Feste remembered when Malvolio said to Olivia, Madam, Lord, why laugh you at such a barren rascal? An you smile not hes gagged . This explained why Feste brought his revenge on Malvolio. Malvolio, as Olivia said, was indeed notoriously abused and threatened to have his revenge on everyone. Malvolio was excluded from the happiness and good fortune of the other main characters, and he left, on his own, drowned in sorrow.

Learning Strategies and Information Processing Development free essay sample

Teachers working with these students must implement strategies when presenting new information to their students, determining what helpful strategies should be utilized to help their students attend, recognize and remember this information. A main goal is that learning disabled students will be able to independently utilize these strategies in the future with minimal assistance from others. Learning strategies are â€Å"techniques, principles, or rules that facilitate the acquisition, manipulation, integration, storage, and retrieval of information across situations and settings† (Alley amp;Deshler, 1979, p. 13). Teachers implement strategies while instructing students to help students attend. Teachers also teach students strategies that will help them recall information (e. g. mnemonic devices) Learning disabled students have difficulty staying on task, organizing information and materials, memorizing important information, and writings tasks. Learning disabled students often exhibit low self-esteem and the necessary confidence to attempt new learning strategies. These students also seem to create a self-fulfilling prophecy in predicting and believing they will fail at a task because they have in the past. As students learning strategies improve, confidence levels will grow. LEARNING STRATEGIES AND INFORMATION PROCESSING DEVELOPMENT Pg. 3 Educators can utilize different learning strategies to improve a student’s performance and gain learning skills for life as well as confidence. One of the difficult tasks a special education teacher faces is determining which strategy is most effective and how to implement that strategy. A teacher should consider a student’s disability and be familiar with the learning challenges that are associated with that particular disability. There are strategies that help instructional information be received by a student and information processing strategies that help students recall information. Many learning disabled students struggle with attending and recalling important information. This affects their ability to focus, gather important information and store that information for future use. â€Å"Each time a student’s attention is not engaged and maintained, an opportunity to learn is lost. When many such opportunities are lost, wide gaps in knowledge and skills are to be expected. These gaps, in turn, make new knowledge less† (Smith). Attention difficulties often impact a student’s ability to process information in short term and long term memory systems. When a student is not following a teacher’s instruction, the ability to note important facts and later recall them is greatly impacted. A teacher needs to be on able to identify students that appear distracted or are unable to recall recently presented information. After identification, teachers should implement learning strategies that will teach students the tools to help them recognize important information and move that information into their LEARNING STRATEGIES AND INFORMATION PROCESSING DEVELOPMENT Pg. 4 memory system for future use. The end goal is for the student to utilize these strategies with minimal assistance in their daily life functions. Humans possess three types of memory systems: Short term memory, long term memory and working memory. All of these systems all work together and interpret information based on relevancy. Our memory systems also have different developmental stages. A person usually retains information in short term memory for approximately 25 seconds or less. The process of our short term memory moving over newly presented data to long term memory is called a working memory. This process for many learning disabled students can be very difficult as many different processes are involved that include: perception, language, thought, past knowledge. These processing skills become strong as we become adults. Helpful learning strategies include: modeling, self-questions techniques, self-monitoring to attention and verbal self-instruction. (Smith, 2003) Memory is crucial to all learning as it allows you store and retrieve the information that has been learned. â€Å"Learning depends on memory, because the knowledge stored in your memory provides the framework to which you link new knowledge, by association. And the more extensive your framework of existing knowledge, the more easily you can link new knowledge to it† (thebrain. mcgill. ca/flash/). One key strategy to help attention and memory is to make the information presented meaningful. When students engage in activities that where information that is more meaningful, information becomes easier to comprehend. Teachers should take into LEARNING STRATEGIES AND INFORMATION PROCESSING DEVELOPMENT Pg. 5 consideration the student’s age, disability and any other important factors. Teachers can utilize mnemonic devices and graphic organizers to help students improve memory skills of important concepts. Inquiry based learning and discussions help students stay actively involved while the teacher is presenting key information. From an early age of development, toddlers are able to recognize basic objects and people. Being able to identify a picture and form recognition is not as difficult of a task as recalling facts and information from that picture. Recalling facts and data involves using language and sequencing processing skills. Many students with learning disabilities struggle to sequence events and processes. We may see a preschool student have difficulty related the necessary steps involved in making a sandwich or a middle school student struggle with relating what he did this past weekend. These skills can be strengthened through activities that involve rehearsal and practice using verbal and picture cues/prompts. Identify key facts and understanding numerical order (i. e. First I†¦ then †¦. next ) can help these students organize their thoughts and ideas. This skill can also help students identify key facts, sequence stories in correct chronological order. Information processing development can also be affected by visual-perceptual skills, motor skills and language skills. Teachers need to be familiar with each of these processes in order to understand how they each can affect the learning process and implement strategies for learning success. Teachers can help students from an early age understand and discriminate different lines and shapes as well as directional cues left and right and other line directional. LEARNING STRATEGIES AND INFORMATION PROCESSING DEVELOPMENT Pg. â€Å"Knowledge of the order of visual-perceptual development tells us that we should help students discriminate verticals, perpendiculars, up-down, and asymmetrical figures before left-right reversal figures, diagonals, or symmetrical figures (Smith, 2004). Many preschool students are identified with delayed fine motor skills during preschool when they have difficulty coloring, writing, using scissors. Young children with fine motor delays may avoid structured tabl e activities in preschool and kindergarten. Young students may also struggle with fine motor tasks like stringing beads, buttoning, and playing with blocks (http://preschooler. hebump. com). Many students that struggle with fine motor tasks often have difficulties with using scissors and paper pencil tasks. Note taking in class can be very difficult and cause great frustration. As a result, these students may become frustrated and unable to keep up with lectures and note taking. These students will often avoid writing assignments by avoidance tactics and not completing tasks. Teachers can use different strategies to help these students (e. g. provide printed notes, verbal/oral tests and homework). Occupational therapist can often help these students with accommodations (e. . computer software, keyboard/computer). Many students with fine motor delays as children often continue to have difficulties as adults. Language processing delays can have a significant impact on a studentâ€℠¢s ability to receive information and successfully process information. These delays affect many different areas that include: auditory processing skills, expressive and receptive language skills, pragmatic skills and problem solving skills. â€Å"Because words are symbols for concepts, any trouble processing these symbols affects a person’s thinking, comprehension, speaking, and social interactions. LEARNING STRATEGIES AND INFORMATION PROCESSING DEVELOPMENT Pg. 7 Delays in this area tend to persist, so that language cannot be used effectively to facilitate learning† (Smith, 2004) Many learning disabled students also exhibit expressive and receptive language delays. These delays may affect a student’s ability to participate in the classroom. A student with language processing delays may have difficulties that may include: processing basic information, following directions, sequencing events, syntax and semantic difficulties. Special education teachers can provide helpful skills and strategies that can help their students be successful in the classroom and in their communities. These strategies allow students with disabilities and delays to recognize important, retain and recall this information. It is also important for educators to understand the stages of development in the areas of visual-perceptual skills, motor skills and language skills. Through understanding these stages of development, teachers will be able to provide support for students with disabilities and delays. Hw 6 Nightmare Essay

Hw 6 Nightmare Essay Hw 6 Nightmare Essay Mohamed Garranah Kitchen Nightmare Assignment Mr. Mott Wow! I have watched many episodes of Kitchen Nightmares, but I have never seen this one. I have seen Ramsey much more pissed, but I have never seen a restaurant so bad. The restaurant was a chaos from top to bottom, everything from the front house setting to the kitchen to the management. The restaurant Oceana, has a prime location apparently and receives a lot of walk ins, its obvious because the food looks disgusting so I assume that they would hardly have repeat guests. Givin that the restaurant is in such a prime location there are many obstacles regarding having a lot of walk ins and trying to get every dish out perfectly. When Chef Ramsey arrived it was obvious that the restaurants operation was terrible. Frozen food, expired food, management fighting, etc. The two brothers Moe and Rami along with Chef Ramsey were the main characters in this episode. There was a lot of conflict between Moe and Rami as well as Chef Ramsey and Moe. The restaurant had several MAJOR issues, first the executive chef they had was probably the most disgusting person I have seen, I would like to see him come to Kendall or Glion and see how our Chefs work. The Chef was not only bad at his job he was also a liar. There was a part in the episode were Moe said â€Å" It is like he was taking money straight from our pockets† referring to the chef, so I think the best decision made was to fire him. Second problem was off course hygiene, the hygiene in this restaurant was 0!, expired food, and rats! The crabs being frozen for so long and the duck being cooked prior to serve date and not even dated was extremely unprofessional. They had probably never clean that kitchen after using it and would probably go home and not even check to see if anything needs cleaning. Third problem was the denial they had of how bad their food was, I liked how they would blame the customer as having a bad opinion instead of actually looking at what they are doing wrong, I mean who are they kidding? Another issue that was bringing the restaurant down was Moe, he is a hot head who has no business running a restaurant. Not only was Moe fighting with his bother all the time, but he thinks that he knows what he is doing when obviously he nows nothing of FnB management. He has the recipes saved in his head, when he said that to chef Ramsey I wanted to just kick him in the face because he sounded so stupid throughout the entire episode. He keeps fighting with his brother Rami who actually cares about the restaurant and is giving his time and effort to listen to Ramsey in order to educate himself to run a better place. The last major issue is Moe firing his staff all the time, which costs him so much money and negative work environment. Moe can not be a leader he has no qualities of being one, he can not support, motivate, or even coper-ate with his employees. There is nothing positive to say about this restaurant, I would

Life Cycle of Fireflies and Lightning Bugs

Life Cycle of Fireflies and Lightning Bugs Fireflies, also known as lightning bugs, are part of the beetle family (Lampyridae),  in the order Coleoptera. There are about 2,000 species of fireflies worldwide, with over 150 species in the U.S. and Canada.   Like all beetles, fireflies undergo complete metamorphosis with four stages in their life cycle: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Egg (Embryonic Stage) The firefly life cycle begins with an egg. In mid-summer, mated females will deposit about 100 spherical eggs, singly or in clusters, in the soil or near the soil surface. Fireflies prefer moist soils, and will often choose to place their eggs under mulch or leaf litter, where the soil is less likely to dry out. Some fireflies will deposit eggs on vegetation rather than directly in the soil. Firefly eggs usually hatch in 3-4 weeks. The eggs of some lightning bugs are bioluminescent, and you may see them glowing dimly if youre lucky enough to find them in the soil. Larva (Larval Stage) As with many beetles, lightning bug larvae look somewhat worm-like. The dorsal segments are flattened and extend to the back and sides, like overlapping plates. Firefly larvae produce light and are sometimes called glowworms. Firefly larvae usually live in the soil. At night, they hunt slugs, snails, worms, and other insects. When it captures prey, the larva will inject its unfortunate victim with digestive enzymes to immobilize it and liquefy its remains. Larvae emerge from their eggs in late summer and live through the winter before pupating in the spring. In some species, the larval stage lasts well over a year, with the larvae living through two winters before pupating. As it grows, the larva will repeatedly molt to shed its exoskeleton, replacing it with a larger cuticle each time. Just before pupating, the firefly larva measures about  ¾ in length. Pupa (Pupal Stage) When the larva is ready to pupate, usually in late spring, it constructs a mud chamber in the soil and settles inside it. In some species, the larva attaches itself to a trees bark, hanging upside down by the hind end, and pupates while suspended (similar to a caterpillar). Regardless of which position the larva assumes for pupation, a remarkable transformation takes place during the pupal stage. In a process called histolysis, the larvas body is broken down, and special groups of transformative cells are activated. These cell groups, called histoblasts, trigger biochemical processes that transform the insect from a larva into its adult form. When the metamorphosis is complete, the adult firefly is ready to emerge, usually about 10 days to several weeks after pupation. Adult (Imaginal Stage) When the adult firefly finally emerges, it has only one real purpose, to reproduce. Fireflies flash to find a mate, using a species-specific pattern to locate compatible individuals of the opposite sex. Typically, the male flies low to the ground, flashing a signal with the light organ on his abdomen, and a female resting on vegetation returns his communiquà ©. By repeating this exchange, the male homes in on her, and the rest of the story is happily ever after. Not all fireflies feed as adults- some simply mate, produce offspring, and die. But when adults do feed, they are usually predacious and hunt other insects. Female fireflies sometimes use a bit of trickery to lure males of other species closer  and then eat them. Not much is known about firefly eating habits, however, and it is thought that some fireflies may feed on pollen or nectar. In some species, the female adult firefly is flightless. She may resemble a firefly larva but have large, compound eyes. And some fireflies dont produce light at all. For example, in the U.S., species found west of Kansas dont glow.

The United Nations Mission In Sierra Leone Essay

The United Nations Mission In Sierra Leone - Essay Example   At the beginning of 1995, the UN Secretary General appointed Mr. Berhanu Dinka, an Ethiopian national to help broker a peaceful settlement in Sierra Leone.   Dinka worked with the help of the Organization of African Union (OAU) and Economic Community of West African State (ECOWAS) to resolve this conflict and bring the country back to civilian rule. Mr. Dinka’s effort, together with ECOWAS and OAU, seemed to bear fruit as of February 1996, just a year after the war. Parliamentary and presidential elections were held, and the army ceded power to the winner, Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Tejan Kabbah. However, RUF refused to take part in the elections and declined to recognize Mr. Kabbah’s win. Their refusal to participate or accept the presidential and parliamentary election fuelled the war further.   In November 1996, Mr. Dinka, with the help of OAU and ECOWAS, assisted in the negotiation of the peace agreement between the government and RUF, commonly known as the Abidjan Ac cord.   However, the accord was not implemented immediately as it was derailed by another coup d’à ©tat 6 months later. At this time, the army also joined RUF and formed a ruling junta, forcing the president and his government to seek asylum in Guinea.   A new Special Envoy tried to persuade the military junta to cede power, but he failed. This forced the United Nations Council to impose sanctions on the rulers and allowed ECOWAS to implement the embargo using its military wing. 7 On October 23, 1997, a sub-committee of ECOWAS dealing with Sierra Leone met a delegation of the junta and held talks in Conakry, which led to the signing of a peace deal. This deal called for a ceasefire that was to be monitored by ECOMOG together with the UN military observers. On November 5, 1997, President Kabbah provided a communique accepting the new deal and said his government would work with ECOWAS, ECOMOG, UN, and the UNHCR to implement the new deal. However, although the junta said i t was committed to the agreement, it criticized some provisions of the agreement. This brought many questions than answers and as a result, the agreement was not implemented. 8 Due to continued conflict between the rebels and the government, the UN Security Council gave nod for the establishment UNAMSIL (United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone). The mandate of the mission was to help the government and the rebels to honor the Lome Peace Agreement. On February 7, 2000, the Security Council revised the mandate of UNAMSIL by adding more tasks. The military component was increased

Myths and Misconceptions about Viruses and Security Essay Example for Free

Myths and Misconceptions about Viruses and Security Essay Computer viruses, as they are commonly known today, are malicious malware design to destroy and distort the normal working of a computer. The first known origin of computer viruses is estimated to be in the 1960’s CITATION Nat14 l 1033 (Devotta, 2014). The virus was in form of a game called Core Wars, and would self-replicate every time it was run. The group of programmers who developed it also made the first known anti-virus called Reeper. It was not until 1983, that one of these programmers announced the existence of Core Wars CITATION Ant l 1033 (AntivirusWorld, n. d.). In the same era, an influx of personal computers flooded the market and games became very popular. As a result, malicious viruses like Trojan horse were developed and innocent consumers downloaded them thinking that they were nice games only to feel the repercussions later. Since then, many viruses have been developed and continue to cause havoc to our computer experience. A computer virus is a malicious code that is written with instructions to replicate itself in a host computer and attaches itself to files and programs in the machine CITATION All l 1033 (AllAboutCookies, n.d.). Often, this happens without the consent of the user, and once the machine is booted or the infected program is launched, the virus attacks and damages data. In the case where an infected file is saved on a storage device, transfer of that file to another computer repeats the cycle and the virus re-infects the new host computer CITATION Sym10 l 1033 (Symantec, 2010). Viruses are designed to be spread via several media, where they piggyback on emails, programs, or network systems. The same way myths and misconceptions arise after a deadly disease pandemic, the computer world is full of myths about viruses. Some of the most common unfounded myths include; Mac users are virus proof, firewalls block off viruses, formatting and re-installing the operating system of an infected computer and then backing up one’s data gets rid of viruses, using antivirus programs protects one fully from viruses, signs of error messages popping up on one’s computer indicate that the computer is infected, corrupted files and blue screen displays on computers indicate a virus attack CITATION Rak11 l 1033 (Tembhurne, 2011). While some of these misconception hold water, they are not absolutely true all the time. A common scenario for internet users is the appearance of irritating pop-up messages, especially when browsing. While some of these messages are strategies for internet marketing by companies, and are indeed inevitable, it is possible for one to block pop-up messages- without purchasing software. First and foremost, there are free downloadable pop-up blockers that are effective on general browser pop-up ads. Examples include, Google Toolbar, Yahoo Companion Toolbar, Pop-up Stopper, PopUp Blocker, WorldIQ Toolbar and CleanMyPC, just to name but a few CITATION Kio15 l 1033 (Kioskea, 2015). Peer-to-peer file sharing programs are another source of disturbing pop-ups, especially once you install a program downloaded from these sites. To get rid of search, uninstall any unfamiliar programs from the Control Panel. Most browsers today also come with in-built software that block pop-ups, and can be adjusted to block the ads under the Settings tab. A good example is Internet Explorer CITATION Uni04 l 1033 (Iowa, 2004). Using Windows XP Service Pack 2 is also another viable option since the latest version includes a built-in Pop-up blocker CITATION Ram07 l 1033 (Srinivasan, 2007). References AllAboutCookies. (n.d.). Leadership: The MBTI Assessment

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality assessment that helps to assess one's psychological preferences based on a psychometric questionnaire. These preferences were extracted from the typological theories proposed by Carl Gustav Jung writings in his book ‘Psychological Types'. The MBTI focuses on normal populations and emphasizes the value of naturally occurring differences. [1] Also recognized commonly as a behavioral assessment tool, the MBTI uses a combination of 4 letters and each represent a clearly defined attribute. Altogether, the MBTI test consists of 16 different personality types that will describe one’s personality in alleged detail. The MBTI test has reviewed that I am type ENTJ which covers aspects of being extraverted, intuitive, thinking and judging altogether but in different extents. According to Dr. David Keirsey, he states that a person with type ENTJ is recognized as a ‘Fieldmarshal’ or basically someone who is a natural born leader as agreed by Joe Butt in his article on ENTJ. He adds that this attribute of Fieldmarshals are a rare breed that are natural at taking the lead, are structural organizers and have an act on devising contingency plans. These collectively form characteristics of a leader who will be decisive and are visionary in setting goals and direction. Having these traits of a leader, Fieldmarshals are expected to take up roles of higher responsibility and will usually take pleasure in them. However their strong devotion to their work may sometimes be a hindrance to their social lifestyles. Another prevalent characteristic of a Fieldmarshal is the tendency to emphasize on efficiency and are usually intolerant of prodigality. [5 &6] I have to admit that while reading the results and review of my personality type; it felt like a strong confirmation of how I evaluate myself. Most of the traits specified were indeed very accurate such that I am a natural leader. I have come to realize that not only do I have the tendency to lead others but I also enjoy taking responsibility and I feel more comfortable in planning ahead rather than doing things spontaneously. Being extraverted is also a spot on because I am that person who would walk across the room to get to know someone new and am not afraid to express my thoughts publicly. Looking at the basis of how the personality results were generated, I still do not comprehend how I only scored 1 in the ‘Thinking’ category as I usually make decisions based on facts and logic. Apart from the MBTI test, the Dominance Influence Steadiness Conscientiousness (DISC) test is also another credible assessment tool that provides an effective feedback and rational to help one identify his/her personal behavior and strengths, thus increasing self-awareness. The DISC assessment is a shorter test as compared to the MBTI and yet yields more specific results from over 19,000 personalized responses and 384 separate behavioral descriptions. [3&4] One other assessment would be the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI) which measures thinking preferences in people. This model functions very similar to the others by incorporating cognitive style measurement. HBDI in short, adapts a concept of determining one’s dominant thinking style based on analytical, sequential, interpersonal and imaginative aspects. [7&4] Paul D. Tieger and Barbara Barron-Tieger, who are both recognized experts in personality type and career development, agreed that the MBTI can serve as career counselors to guide and find jobs that are best suited for a person. [8] However the Army Research Institute commissioned a review on this and argued that there is no evidence for the utility of the test and further claimed that the classification scheme is limited and may be an example of stereotyping personalities. Other questions have been raised in David Pittenger’s report of how the MBTI instrument comes up short for what it purports to measure. Some of which are mainly concerns on the reliability and validity of the results. [9] Considering all that, the objective of the MBTI is somewhat achieved when it helps to facilitate self-awareness which can then lead to self- improvement. With critical feedback provided, one will be able to realize their potential essentially natural leaders, and also to reaffirm one’s focus on their strengths. As discussed, discretion may be necessary to protect one against undue reliance upon the MBTI especially in career choices.

Language Corrupts Thought Essay

Language Corrupts Thought Essay Speeches are given all the time, all around the world. Speeches are given to express thoughts and feelings by revealing the speaker’s qualities and opinions, which can impact business, politics, and world events. Politicians are constantly corrupting citizen’s thoughts. They do this in order to distort the truth, to gain your attention, and to go along and follow what they believe. In March 2008, Sally Kern stated her position in homosexuality.Looking through Kern’s speech, she is distorting the truth by telling biased statistics, information that is irrational, and that she is influencing others with her religion view. First, Kern use of statistics is completely biased. â€Å"Matter of fact, studies show no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than, you know, a few decades. So it’s the death knell for this country. † This so called study is completely biased because she has no proof or evid ence that what she is stating is even a bit true. And she has no proof to prove to us that there have been societies that have died out because they embraced homosexuality. She is a bigot in such a way that she won’t tolerate those who hold different opinions from her own, which is not something we look for in a legislator or anyone who is a part of the government system. Throughout the speech, Kern demonstrates reasons to why she is against homosexuals. â€Å"I honestly think it’s the biggest threat even, that our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam, which I think is a big threat. OK? † Homosexuals are not a threat to our nation. The comparison between terrorism and homosexuals just cannot be made. Homosexuals do not cause a danger to our country or our universe, for that matter. There have been no Americans killed by LGBT citizens, if at all, there are more Americans killing LGBT citizens, not directly, but through suicidal acts. Terrorists have kil led thousands of people, posing a threat to our country, which are things that homosexuals have not done. â€Å"Homosexuals are already citizens who have equal rights. They want â€Å"special rights† for the acceptance of their deviant lifestyle.I'm thankful that Oklahoma is different than California and New York. I pray it stays that way. † Once again, Homosexuals do not want â€Å"special rights†, all they want is to be able to live their life, married with their significant other. What is so different between a man and woman marriage and 2 men or 2 women marriage? Throughout history, people have stood up for things that they did not agree with. African Americans were segregated for years. George Wallace, former governor of Alabama, said in his inaugural address, â€Å"I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever. judging African Americans based on the color of their skin. Or the Jewish people taken from their homes to concentration camps judging them based on their religion. Homosexuality is no different. Another thing Kern continuously states in this speech is her religious view, hinting that her religious view is superior to any other. â€Å"But if I were to ask you what is the one thing that has made America great, that makes us unique, what would it be?†¦ What made us great is that we were a nation founding on Christian principles†¦ I am not saying everyone has to be Christian; this is not a homogenous nation. What you have to be is someone who believes in a Judeo-Christian ethic, in other words, in knowing there's a right and wrong. † She asked the question, and then answered it herself. Instead of letting the American’s minds wander and to think for themselves, Kern just automatically answered for them without thought of a different opinion. Also, she contradicts herself in that last sentence. She’s telling us we can pick whatever religion we’d like, which is what should ha ppen, but telling us we need these requirements regardless of what religion we believe in or even if we believe in one. This is said simply to push more people towards Christianity and believe with what she believes in. Kern all the way through her speech, addressed the issue of homosexuality and why she thought it was inhumane and unjust for our country. However, Kern filled her speech with absurd ideas and invalid information. Kern’s speech about homosexuality evidently failed because Kern did not back up information with proof or evidence and tried using her religion to persuade people to side with her. How to Write Family and Consumer Science Essay Detailed Guide

How to Write Family and Consumer Science Essay Detailed Guide Are you studying family and consumer sciences? It is an interdisciplinary program that is related to home economics and helps college students make informed decisions about their well-being, family relationships, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life. Students in this major learn about human development, family relations, personal and family finance, consumer economics, food science and nutrition, housing and interior design, fashion, textiles, and apparel. Family and consumer science essays are used to assess how students understand specific ideas related to this field of studies and their ability to explain complex concepts and theories in their own words. When you have a task of writing a family and consumer science essay at college, it can be hard to know where to start but, actually, getting A for it is easier than you think. There is no need to be frustrated when you can’t cope with your family and consumer science essay because this detailed guide will give you everything you need to write an A+ academic essay. What Is Family and Consumer Science Essay? Family and consumer science essays are typically written in a discursive style. Students need to bring together interesting ideas, relevant evidence, and logical arguments to address a specific issue or a question. Your task is to persuade your readers that your idea is correct based on evidence. It’s important to develop a strong thesis statement and support it with relevant examples, evidence, and information from credible sources or academic texts. All academic essays follow a particular structure: you have to outline your argument in the introduction, develop your argument in the main body (the middle section), and need to end your essay with your overall key message in the conclusion. Although writing an essay is not a linear process it can be divided into a series of several manageable basic steps: Develop a topic. You need to understand your assignment requirements, find and explore the background information, and form the working thesis; Do in-depth research using scholarly sources on the subject. Read closely and take notes; Develop a thesis statement and make an outline of arguments; Write a draft integrating the evidence that you gathered during your research. Format all citations and references according to the citation style specified by your instructor; Review and revise your draft to improve the content and the logic. Edit and proofread your essay for grammatical errors and common punctuation and spelling mistakes. How to Choose a Winning Topic for Family and Consumer Science Essay Writing If you were given a topic for your family and consumer science essay, you need to analyze your assignment question to get a good idea of what you are being asked to do. First, you should pay attention to the instructional words to understand what approach you must take such as explain, assess, evaluate, discuss, analyze, compare, contrast, examine, comment on etc. For example, if you were asked to discuss homeschooling, you have to investigate this phenomenon, look at all the evidence you can find, and provide reasons for and against it. When you understand what you are actually asked to do, your next step is to identify the broad topic to understand the context of your discussion and to determine specific aspects of the topic that you were assigned to write about. It will help you stay focused while doing the research. If you have to choose a topic on your own, the best approach is to select a topic that you are interested in and that is familiar to you. If the topic is too broad, you need to narrow it down that that you could be able to cover it in your essay, presenting a coherent argument. For example, if you would like to write an essay about medical nutrition therapy, you should narrow this topic which is extremely general and explain how nutrition therapy can help in treating specific diseases, for example, cancer or diabetes. Have no idea which topic to choose? Have a look at this short list of interesting family and consumer science essay topics. We have made it for you to help you get started: Analyze Factors that Contribute to Food Sustainability; Discuss Advantages of Sustainable Fashion; What Are the Strategies to Achieve a Healthy Balance of Work and Family? Discuss Ways To Live More Sustainably; Why Is it Important to Promote Breastfeeding? What Is the Impact of Adopting Mobile Finance? Social Security and Aging Population; How to Promote Technology Use among Older Adults; Discuss the Pros and Cons of Homeschooling; Explain the Importance of Making Safe Food Choices; What Is the Role of Macronutrients in Human Nutrition? Presentation Techniques for Interior Design; Protection of Consumer Rights; Medical Nutrition Therapy for Neurologic Disorders; What Strategies Are Used for Resolving Consumer Conflicts? Research Your Essay Topic The next step is to find relevant primary and secondary sources on the subject of your family and consumer science essay, read them closely, and make meaningful notes of the most interesting ideas that you can summarize, paraphrase or cite in your writing project. You have to find appropriate academic books and journal articles. It’s useful to make a mind map or a spider diagram, noting down some initial ideas and thoughts to stay focused while doing research. It will serve you as an outline plan with relevant key points and background points that will guide your research. Use skimming and scanning techniques to identify material in your sources relevant to the key points that you have determined. You should read critically scholarly texts on your subject and add your own thoughts to your notes. You should note down only relevant and important information that you will need for building your argument. If you plan to use some sentences or phrases as citations in your essay, note them down in quotation marks. Don’t forget to write down all the details of every source you are reading (title, author, page number etc.). You will need this information when creating a references page. Make an Outline Planning your family and consumer science essay is an important step in the essay writing process that why we recommend you to create an outline before you start writing. There are several different types of outlines and the most common ones are a decimal outline which uses only numbers and an alphanumeric outline that uses Roman and Arabic numerals and capitalized and lowercase letters. A good outline will help you to: organize and develop your argument; stick to the major points that you are willing to make; have a good idea of how your argument should start and end; make your essay well-structured, clear, and coherent. Every outline always begins with a strong thesis statement that presents the central idea of your academic essay. An effective thesis statement typically has 2 parts. It tells what exactly you are going to argue and outlines how you are going to support your argument. Your thesis should be definable, arguable, clear, and specific as possible. Then you should brainstorm the ideas that you plan to include in your essay. You need to make a list of ideas and organize them into related groups. Make sure you group your ideas logically and put them in an order that makes sense. Organize ideas into groups to form categories and subcategories. Before you start writing, it’s important to identify your main ideas because your essay shouldn’t be a set of quotes and facts or a summary of other people’s ideas. You have to apply your critical thinking skills to analyze what you are reading on your topic and synthesize the information to develop your own opinions, ideas, and arguments. Making an outline can help you in doing that. Write a Draft When writing a draft, you can start with the main body if you have a mental block with your introductory paragraph. You can begin with any topic idea that you feel comfortable with. You should write freely and never worry about grammar or style at this stage of the writing process. If you worry too much about editing and refining your essay at this stage, you will work slowly and restrict your thinking. You can perfect your writing later. Actually, you’ll need to revise your paragraphs several times making improvements in the content and in the logic before you can be satisfied with your final draft so you should let your ideas flow. Here are some tips on how to write different sections of an essay. Introduction In your introduction, you need to tell your readers what they should expect from your writing project. You should keep your introduction brief, focusing on the relevant information that will help you answer the set question. An introduction is typically not long it should make up 5-10% of the whole academic essay. Your word count will determine how many details you need to include in your introductory paragraph. You should start your introduction with an attention grabber – a relevant quote from an expert, interesting statistics, a shocking fact etc. You have to provide your readers with some background information about the topic so you should start with a broader subject and then introduce a specific topic to your audience. An important part of your introduction is the thesis statement that you are going to argue in your essay. Besides, you can also briefly outline the key points that you are going to discuss in your family and consumer science essay. Body Paragraphs When writing body paragraphs, you need to group together sentences that focus on the same idea so the main points are easy to understand. Typically, the body of your family and consumer science essay should include several supporting arguments that back up your main idea (thesis statement). You have to introduce these arguments in separate paragraphs. The main idea of each paragraph has to be outlined in the first topical sentence. You also need to provide evidence to support each claim. The evidence may include: research from your readings; statistics; arguments; quotations; facts; data. You should also include a reference and tell your readers how this evidence can support your points. The concluding sentence should link each paragraph to the main argument of your essay. You should use transition words and phrases like therefore, at the same time, in addition to, because, accordingly, on the whole etc. to help your readers navigate your essay. Make sure that you use transitions sparingly and only when it is actually necessary. Conclusion A conclusion is your last chance to persuade your audience that your point of view is right. It should convey the sense of completeness and closure but at the same time it should look to the future and be thought-provoking. Don’t write a simple summary but synthesize your ideas and don’t include any new material or evidence. In this part of your essay, you need to move from the specific to the general to set the discussion into a larger context. Revise, Edit, and Proofread Your Draft It’s very unlikely that the first draft of your family and consumer science essay will be perfect. That’s why you should leave enough time to revise, edit, and proofread your own work. First, you have to reread your draft from start to finish and check the structure and the content. You should look at your work as a whole to have a clear picture and understand where you need to make improvements and changes. You may rethink your thesis and restructure your argument, delete irrelevancies or redundancies, and add some new material. You should ensure that the structure of your essay is logical and helps your readers follow your argument. Then you should check the style and the presentation. While proofreading your family and consumer science essay, you should check accuracy, referencing, and language. You’d better check different aspect in separate sessions. You’re advised to use online dictionaries, thesaurus, and grammar guides to check spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Make sure that all references and citations follow a specific citation style (MLA, APA, Chicago, Harvard etc.).

Prevention of Infection in Home Health Care Essay

Prevention of Infection in Home Health Care - Essay Example As such, this brief analysis will seek to analyze the definition of infection, types of infection/most common types of infection that exist within home health care, the modes of these different infection transmissions, ways to impede or disrupt such transmissions, and self protective equipment and its application within the home health care setting. Though home health care accounts for but a small percentage of total health care delivery within the United States, it is nonetheless a growing sector of health care deserves discussion. According to a recent study, published in 2011, there has been a high level of growth within home care; however, it still pales in comparison to the total amount of money that is expended upon hospital care. As of 2011, home care represented just 3% of total health care expenditures as compared to over 31% of total expenditure taking place with relation to traditional hospitals. However, the fact remains that even though the figure is small; it is a growi ng sector and is expected to grow a further 2.5% in the coming decade. As such, it is necessary to understand some of the key nuances that exist within home care as a function of anticipating and treating these issues in a medically expeditious means. For purposes of this brief analysis, the author will consider infection to be, â€Å"the invasion of a host organism’s bodily tissues by disease-causing organisms, their multiplication, and the reaction of the host tissues to these organisms and the toxins they produce† (Krismer 2012). With such a broad and encompassing definition, it becomes clear that infection within home care encompasses a broad range of issues; some acting as a more primal threat to health than others. It is important to note that although many journal entries have warned concerning the level of latent disease and exposure that exists within hospital and primary care, the level to which pathogens exist within the environment of the home is far less u niform. Whereas hospitals most comply with federal standards of cleanliness and procedures for disposal of an array of disease causing agents, regularly schedule cleanings, and a host of other preventative mechanisms, home care is almost invariably not nearly so tightly regulated, or sanitary. For this very reason, the prevalence of disease and the severity with which it affects patients within the given context is almost invariably higher than a similarly community of patients within a traditional medical facility. However, the prevalence of infection within the home care theater is not reason in and of itself to strongly recommend against its implementation as a means of treatment. With regards to the types of infections and the most common infections that exhibit themselves within home care, there are a number which will herein be discussed. As one might expect, the very same infectious disease agents that exhibit themselves within the hospital care front are also exhibited withi n home care; albeit, to different extents and total percentage rates than in traditional hospital care. For instance, studies on home care have typically indicated that the most common types of infections are concentric upon urinary tract infections, followed by an array of different types of skin infections, with staphylococcus aureus, and enterococcus rounding out the least
